What a great event! We met some wonderful people from all walks of life... Everyone coming together to raise awareness about Diabetes!
We asked our friend Linda to help with the booth and here's what she had to say after the event:
"It was a fabulous event and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. I've already called my parents and told them all about what I learned. I loved talking to everyone and being outside was a real treat. I also enjoyed being inside the House of Representatives. It was cool to get a taste of what those legislators are up to."
If you have the time please get involved with your local ADA chapter... you won't regret it!
Omega-3s & Diabetes
The American Diabetes Association recommends eating 2-3 servings of non-fried fish per week for dietary omega-3 fatty acids. Seafood contains omega-3
fatty acids that are considered a good type of fat because of the benefits they
provide. Omega-3 benefits include:
reduction of blood triglyceride levels,
prevention of blood clotting (which can cause blood vessels to narrow and ultimately become blocked),
possible reduction of blood pressure, and
food sources are low in saturated fat.
Strive to eat seafood 2-3 times per week!

Diabetes Educator Conference - Update
Iím back from Vegas and the American Association of Diabetes Educators national conference.
A few sessions I attended covered:
GLP-1 hormone. Most people with Type 2 Diabetes have low levels of GLP-1,
Insulin pump therapy as an effective way to treat uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes, and
Better results when the entire family is involved (not just the person with Diabetes) in making lifestyle changes.
I also met an inspirational person from the T.V. show...
The Amazing Race
Natalie Strand, MD - winner of The Amazing Race and Type 1 Diabetic.

Q: We eat out a lot. Could you give us some suggestions for Japanese and Chinese?
A: Dining out can be challenging because of the large portion sizes and the unknown of how foods are prepared. You might look at a few dinners listed on your menu to get an idea of portions prior to dining out. Here are a few suggestions when ordering. Ask how items are prepared prior to ordering...
