Support-Group Member Asks:

I wonder if any one else has this problem and if there are any suggestions for me.  I keep my sugars in good control during the day, Usually before I go to bed my bgl's are around 99-121 but when I wake up in the Mornings, my bgl's are 139-195 lately they average around 146.  Does anyone have any thoughts as to why my sugars spike at night?

My bgl's have always been kind of high in the mornings, but they are getting worse.  At my last doctors appointment, the doctor told me to take a glucotrol at bedtime now as well as one in the AM.  I am thinking maybe the glucotrol does not work for me.  I was using glyburide before. Still my sugars have always gone up at night, anyone else with the same problem?  (this is a fasting read)

How late is your last meal?  Are you eating too much carbs at night?  I know when I added a late night snack,like whole wheat crackers and PB or Whole wheat bread and PB about 2 hors before bedtime it helped me.  It wasn't a big snack just enough to keep my blood sugars level during the night.

I was having somewhat the same problem with high sugar in the am.  I havebeen under a doctors care sine Januar 03 for my diabetes II.  I am on my 3rd medication since beginning which seems to be working very well.  I am currentlty using Metaglip 5/500 Glipized & Metformin (I think) once a day.  I began taking my medication in the morning with breakfast and kept rotating aroun the clock to where it gave me the bets control which is now.  I take it in the evening with dinner or soon there after.  

My level is between 90-120 almost every morning depending I what you have the night before.  I have quit my evening coffee and it seems to help.  If you are not active during the day exercise is very important.  I have found with a with 30 minutes of exercise my coutn goes down as much as 50 points.  When I check my level before lunch or dinner it is usally 90-120.

I too have high BS in the morning.  I was told that this could be due to something or other called Dawn something and I can't even explain it . .but something happens between the time you go to bed and the time you wake up . . . . to see if this is happening, you can take your BS before going to bed and then wake up at around 3:00 a.m. and take it again, and then again when you wake up at your regular time.  I like my sleep too much to do this . . but mine is always around 148 or sometimes higher in the morning 1st thing.  I am not on any meds, just trying to lower everything with diet and exercise.
