Subject: Who remembers the first days?

Hi I am one month into this. Where should I turn? Who remembers the first days? What are the questions I should be asking? I typically donnot eat food with labels. I grow it, catch it, or get it at the health food store. Help.

If someone is a diabetic and cannot afford their medications and test strips, where can they get help? have a friend, who needs help?

Subject: Friend cannot afford test strips (response)

Hello,

The American Diabetes Association website has this information:

"I cannot afford my test strips. What should I do?

People without health insurance can check with a local community center or clinic to see if they can obtain free or reduced-cost test strips. Unfortunately, the ADA is not aware of any manufacturer that offers a compassionate use program for test strips.

People with health insurance that does not adequately cover test strips have fewer options. Different pharmacies have test strips available at varying prices, so shopping around for the lowest cost will help those individuals whose policies cover a percentage of the cost."

Subject: Seeing a Dietitian

I am seeing a dietician who has explained things to me much better than my previous doctor ever did.

I have seen a drastic drop in my numbers since I am using the real carb count and taking my new meds. I take insulin (Levimir) and Avandamet and Diabeta.

My fasting blood sugar is now ranging from 148-178 instead of the usual 233-285. I am so happy to see my afternoon numbers down between 96 and 126.

If you have not seen a dietician and you can afford it please do so. You may also choose to visit www.diabetes.org for helpful information on portion control, diet, exercise and other issues.

Subject: Looking for a diet plan

I was diagnosed in June, 2006 about my condition. The only problem that I’m having is losing weight. I try to eat a balanced diet. They put me on a 1,500 diet, but I am not eating that much. When I want a snack I usually eat glucerma bar or the drinks. Do anyone have any particular diet plans if so share with me.

Subject: 2nd opinion

Hi everyone - I hardly ever post, but just had to tonight. I have been on Actos for almost 3 years now and I still cannot get my blood sugar numbers normal. My A1C is fine, but normal daily numbers are high. I asked to be put on Byeta only to have my Dr. ignore my request. I am searching for a second opinion. Do not underestimate your gut feeling when you think something is wrong.

Take care

Annette from Iowa
