I have also been on Actos, Avandia, Avandmet. I try to stay on a 1500 calorie diet too. I also have trouble loosing weight. I will loose 10-15 lbs and then that is it. Dead Stop! I had one doctor tell ,its nearly impossible to loose alot of weight once you start on these medications. Has anyone else been told the same? I feel like to loose the 70 lbs I need to loose I will have to go off all medications for a few months, but this is dangerous. I am really depressed about this at times. My last AC1 was 6.4. If I can get my weight down my medications can be reduced. Am I the only one having this problem? Please respond! ---------- From: Loretta To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Thanks for the info I too do not have insurance and cannot afford the test strips. Thank you for the information of checking with the clinic and other neighborhood sources. The insurance situation in this country is really outrageous!! ---------- From: Dianne Klabechek To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Who remembers the first days? Hi I am one month into this. Where should I turn? Who remembers the first days? What are the questions I should be asking? I typically donnot eat food with labels. I grow it, catch it, or get it at the health food store. Help. Dianne ----- From: Christine Carlson To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Who remembers the first days? (response) Hello Dianne, Your first best step is to ask your doctor for a referral to a diabetes educator in your area. In addition, look into a diabetes education class offered in your area (usually offered at the local hospital). This will help you get started with the basics and answer a lot of your questions. Here is an article with more information for newly diagnosed: http://glucomenu.com/articles/diabetes_recently_diagnosed.asp Here is a listing of Diabetes Educators by state: http://glucomenu.com/education/ Take care, Christine ---------- From: Yvonne To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Friend cannot afford test strips If someone is a diabetic and cannot afford their medications and test strips, where can they get help? have a friend, who needs help? ----- From: Gina To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Friend cannot afford test strips (Response 1) NeedyMeds.com Here is the place that helped me so, much on my meds. I hope it helps you. Go straight to the blue where it says brand name drugs, click on it scroll till you find your meds. There should be a number to call they will send you a form to fill out then send it back they will send most the time a 90 days supply of meds. Gina ----- From: Teresa To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Friend cannot afford test strips (Response 2) If your friend is at a low income level they could go their local Welfare Office and apply for benefits there. Once you are there ask the Case Worker to help you find any agencies in your area who will help. Also, try these links: www.accessdiabeticsupplies.com www.Diabetic-Testing-Supplies.com If you are on Medicare: www.LibertyMedical.com/800-470-6168 ----- From: Christine To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Friend cannot afford test strips (response 3) The American Diabetes Association website has this information: "I cannot afford my test strips. What should I do? People without health insurance can check with a local community center or clinic to see if they can obtain free or reduced-cost test strips. Unfortunately, the ADA is not aware of any manufacturer that offers a compassionate use program for test strips. People with health insurance that does not adequately cover test strips have fewer options. Different pharmacies have test strips available at varying prices, so shopping around for the lowest cost will help those individuals whose policies cover a percentage of the cost." Christine ---------- From: Anita To: support-group@glucoMenu.com Subject: Peanuts? My husband is a diebetic and he likes to eat peanuts, could you please help me to figure how much and what kind to buy him his sugar ranges anywhere between 89 to 150. ----- From: christinec@glucomenu.com To: Support-Group@GlucoMenu.com Subject: Peanuts? (response) Nuts can be a great addition to your meal plan. Nutritionally, they contain fiber and a variety of vitamins and minerals. In addition, they are cholesterol free and contain unsaturated fats (including monounsaturated fats). Nuts are high in fat and calorie dense so you want to watch portion sizes as a little goes a long way. One ounce of peanuts is 28 shelled peanuts. You might count them out and put them in baggies to help you adhere to portion sizes. Look for dry roasted or raw nuts. Limit salted, added oil, or coated (honey roasted, chocolate covered, etc.) nuts to avoid extra calories and sodium. Christine |
