Diabetes Awareness Day - GlucoMenu Booth (Arizona Capitol)
What a great event! We met some wonderful people from all walks of life... Everyone coming together to raise awareness about Diabetes!
We asked our friend Linda to help with the booth and here's what she had to say after the event:
"It was a fabulous event and I can't tell you how much I enjoyed it. I've already called my parents and told them all about what I learned. I loved talking to everyone and being outside was a real treat. I also enjoyed being inside the House of Representatives. It was cool to get a taste of what those legislators are up to."
If you have the time please get involved with your local ADA chapter... you won't regret it!

Packing 227 Bottles of Diet Trop*A*Rocka Snapple
This Thursday we are heading to the AZ Capitol for "Diabetes Awareness Day" (GlucoMenu has a booth and ADA will be there among others).
We thought it would be cool to hand out Diet Snapple Trop*A*Rocka (Bret Michaels brand, he has Type 1 Diabetes)...
Here's a picture of the 227 bottles in the car!
Anyone have a contact at Snapple or know Bret??? :)

Joslin Diabetes Critical Literature Analysis Conference
I attended the Joslin Diabetes Critical Literature Analysis conference in Phoenix.
One of the presenters mentioned research will be presented later this year on giving low dose insulin to those with Pre-Diabetes with the thinking that it may help with preserving pancreas function...
Of course, diet and exercise (along with weight loss) can be very helpful in treating Pre-Diabetes (and that's all natural!).
By the way, the conference was at the Arizona Biltmore. Nice place!

FNCE - Food and Nutrition Conference & Expo
The Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo (FNCE) was held in San Diego last fall.
I attend every year to keep up with the dietetics profession (and try out new foods!).
This year I had a chance to meet one of my favorite authors, Dr. Brian Wansink (he's holding a copy of his book Mindless Eating in the photo).

American Association of Diabetes Educators Conference
I’m back from Vegas and the American Association of Diabetes Educators national conference.
A few sessions I attended covered:
- GLP-1 hormone. Most people with Type 2 Diabetes have low levels of GLP-1,
- Insulin pump therapy as an effective way to treat uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes, and
- Better results when the entire family is involved (not just the person with Diabetes) in making lifestyle changes.
I also met Natalie Strand, MD - winner of The Amazing Race (Type 1 Diabetic) and
Jay and Jen Jacobs (father & daughter - The Biggest Loser) who lost a combined total of 295 pounds!

Recap - Wow! What Fun!
As I look back, it's been quite a year so far!
